X-treme Towing Corporation, from California, in conjunction with Retriever North America, bring this new product to Canada and The USA. It's a Motorcycle capable of towing other cars and trucks up to over 5000 lbs. Besides being a VERY cool machine, it is also EXTREMELY fuel efficient (about 35mpg while in tow) and can ride to the scene of a disabled vehicle by splitting lanes, carpool lanes, etc etc.. allowing for a much faster response time.

To buy 1 or more for your company - contact X-treme Towing Co. @ 714-813-0700. Also call if you are interested in being a distributor for other territories.

  • Might work for private company

like a car rental shuffling cars between lots. Most cities won't permit them to pull from accidents or police call pulls. If the car has 4 flats, there is no dolly, or if its a roll over, there is no cable to upright the car. Its useless in rain or snow also. Get the lift to grab and lift the wheels it would make a pretty cool repo.

    • Yeah...

for sure... it will never replace ALL towing... but would work for most of what tow trucks get called out for.

Police Impounds, PPI's, Repo's, even minor fender benders.

But how many times have you gone to an accident and there really was a need for more than a wheel lift??

Most of the accidents I went to as a tower... even when they called out for a slew of flat beds.. turned out to be just needing a wheel lift and some kitty litter. :|

What a great idea for a fuel-efficient alternative to tow trucks! The design of the bike is ingenious!

    • Yes....

as a tower myself.. and a pretty good one at that, a cordless impact drill (about 200 bucks) can be used to removed one or both of the drive shafts used by 4-wheel drive vehicles... also great for quick tire changes.

Removing one of the drive shafts, means no wear on the transmission... and no lock up from having 2 of the wheels rotating.

I could also see a feature which would use small frame forks instead of the wheel lift to raise the forward portion of the vehicle. As long as the engine is able to run... there is no risk to the transmission either.

  • Goldwings

are not made for towing. Yeah, they do tow trailers, but those trailers are, maybe, 500 pounds, and there's a warning that even doing that might harm the drive shaft. To tow a vehicle with a Wing is only looking for trouble. Better have some tow trucks available to tow the GL1800.

Actually, the structure, driveshaft, transmission and countless other items on the Honda Goldwing were strengthened and refitted to allow for such an application. And the Motorcycle is not actually carrying any of the downward weight... only the forward gravitational weight.

Do know that this unit has been tested by MANY agencies.. including Federal DOT, CHP/CalTrans, AAA, and many other US and international agencies.

It was cleared by the US DOT to be sold and used in the US just last May.

  • Very Dangerous

That's the most dangerous thing I ever seen, can you imagine to try to do an emergency stop towing 5000 ibs with two small wheels, the bike would wipe out and then you would get run over by the 5000 pound car/truck, I don't think that will be allowed over here in Canada

    • Oh... BTW

Canada already has them... in fact the first sale in North America.. was in Toronto I do believe.. WITH CAA.

    • Actually...

The bike itself does not do the stopping alone. The "trailer" though permanent, has a mechanical brake mashing unit. The trailer is designed to brake while in tow for the amount of weight it has on it... and actually more efficiently than almost any other vehicle out there.

The trailer itself can carry alot more weight, but the brakes are rated for about 6000 lbs... and dumbed down for safety (because we know people are going to try to get right to the limit and even go a bit beyond).

Even if the bike merely reduces its speed... the "trailer" adjusts it's brakes to maintain a forward flow identical to that of the motorcycle unit.

In fact, the motorcycle unit has a reverse gear.. and a bypass switch was installed to be able to do so... or else it would just lock it's brakes up... as well as moving slowly downhill.
