It would require that we had it in the first place. What you manet was we lost the opportunity to win it again... we have to have it in the first place. which we did in 1966, but lost it in 1970.

Yes, I would acknowledge that England didn't play very well, but I'm sure a great many of you would say that the Portugese team didn't play especially well either, but by virtue of (the curse of) penalties, the other team did better and are through to the last four.

The truth is that Brazil lost the cup, since they were knocked out in the quarter final stage by France - the team that eviscerated them in 1998, but also they might get it back. As for England? well there's always Euro 2008 or the world cup in South Africa in 2010.

So far all the teams that didn't do well this time round, practise and you'll possibly do better next time.

Hope that is not realy what you are saying. They played like scared chickens! Did they even get a shot at the english goal? perhaps one. But they could score on penalties, which the english couldnt. But face it Protugal played worse, just not always the best team that wins in football :-)

i was making that exact point to a friend the other day. in order for soccer to become popular in the states it need to:
-not follow the same path as the "big 3" as you mentioned, that is, soccer doesn't need ESPN to become big in the US. I hope that it does it on its own, basically creating its own industry where its news and followers are not so ESPN based.
-FIFA needs to keep control of all soccer. It needs to never budge on its no commercials policy (this is why it will never become a typical American sport, which is fine by me)
-and the US citizens need to rethink their egocentric mind set. there are other countries in this world with a lot of good things to contribute to the US if we would just accept them. we seem to have this fear that if we allow anything from another country to become a part of our culture then we're somehow poisoning our own culture, which is ridiculous since we're a very immigrant based country.

anyways, that's all that's on my mind

i was watching a US soccer report alluding to FIFA taking a more aggresive stance on promoting soccer in the US. the contradicting issue with that is the continual exportation of US-born players to Europe- Demarcus Beasley with PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands, for example. i honestly don't know how MLS is going to lure such players to stay in the US. what do you think about that?

why do you guys call "American Football" Football actually. almost in every country in the world (except Britain I guess) Soccer is called football. in American Football you are allowed to play with your hand. In soccer (which should be called Football) you may only play with your feet..feet = football ! hmm?

unfortunately, i have no idea. american football has been called "football" here in the US since its inception. i don't know who came up with the idea of "soccer" either. i agree with you; logically, it makes no sense.
