By el_madrli 1152359823 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThe leaf curls because it is protecting itself from the heat.. Now we can all see this- HOW does it do this is the question. When spreadout a leaf has a large surface area to volume ratio. When the heat stimulates / prompts the leaf to contract within itself, the result is a leaf with a surface area to volume ratio that is much smaller. This means that there is less surface area for the leaf to lose water from it's cells, along with creating a smaller area for the heat to hit the cell. (FYI.. )
By nssnskyline 1152359312 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveYou almost sound smart. If i was dumb that would have impressed me. I love how you say HOW then don't go into how it does it at all. Then you say smaller area to hit cells when actually the cells on the outside would have more area exposed there are just less cells exposed.
I bet you are one of those guys who always try to impress people by explaining things and you have dumb friends. Why dumb friends? Because you can impress them and feel superior but smart people see through you and know you are wrong.
I mean that sounded like something a 5th grader would put in a science paper. The words are there and you almost have it right. But the way you arrange them you are dead wrong.
its that plant that u touch n curls up as a result... got one of those at my backyard
By isra-judoka 1152348787 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removebut everyone knows if you are going to tape something it is allways better with fire. Sure they could have touched it but this was just a little bit neater.

By cibercitizen 1152253823 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removewe've got plenty of plants like that over here.... the leaves will close when touched... it is some kind of defense mechanism i think... or in scientific term, that reaction is called Tigmotropism,.. a reaction caused by touching... almost like Phototropism which is with light...
By hmm... 1152250513 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeits a way of reducing the loss of water via evapo - transpiration. it's usually common for plants to have "motor cells" which allow them to do this in hot, arid places
By wow!!!! 1152276311 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThat's what's cool about it. I've lived in the city all my life and we just don't come across these here, lol.
