Imagine what it’s like to forget how to do what you’ve always done and known. To have your mind playing tricks on you every day. Imagine not remembering where you parked your car, or worse still, not remembering who your wife or husband is.
It’s a terrible feeling, which creates a lot of anxiety, confusion and frustration, to say the least. It’s Alzheimer’s, and unfortunately is often diagnosed much later than need be. To raise awareness of Alzheimer’s signs and stages, Colenso BDDO Auckland have brought to life the way that Alzheimer’s works, through a series of Candid Camera style tv ads.
...my mother had a friend who had two sisters. One by one all three got, & subsequently died of, Alzheimer’s disease.
It is an inherited disease & not a nice way to go when you don't know from one second or minute to the next who you're talking to, for example.
It's very frustrating for the sufferer too initially but as the disease progresses even the ability to feel frustrated is taken from them & they just become a vegetable.
Dignity goes out the window & it's one of the worst way to end up dying. My father died from MS so I know what I'm talking about in terms of debilitating diseases.
I don't like the candid camera approach to this disease seen here. We all like a laugh but I don't think this is the proper way to do an awareness campaign.
Just MHO.
I appreciate your efforts in putting up videos but please don't do any more of this type. It's just NOT funny & it's painful to watch.
Thanks,
I disagree... I can understand how one could be easily offended by this ad, but I think that by beginning with a light hearted approach the ad really connects with the average viewer. Then when it gives you a serious message, it has a much greater affect.
I didn't fine this ad funny, but I found it extremely effective at raising awareness.
Whatever it is, this is not the way to create awareness by making someone feel lost. The laughs in the ad for the serious situation is totally Crap.
By freshypassion 1223947788i agree with you. i took care of my grandmother for 10 years. alzheimers is no joke. this video doesnt really explain the disease the right way.
i watched my grandma wither away to about 65 pounds. i can go into lots of details but i'll spare yall the nightmares you would suffer.
That was the point of the ad, well thought out and executed. I appreciated the impact it had on me, what a great example of what Alzhemer can do to someone.
By Streetglider07 1221838850Ask to yourself where is God. Why he created people with terrible diseases? Not a so good and caring God, right?
By censor 1262020050sickness is not funny.
My heart is with dose who suffer, and dose who care for them.
It is hard for family to ajust as they can not help themselves
By cooinda 1249801049my grandfather has alzheimers. they do better in the mornin
By nates place 1248788099NO POINT HAVING A CAR IF CANDID SHOW KEEP ROBBING OTHERS PEOPLE CAR. WHAT IF NEED TO RUSH TO THE HOSPITAL .
CAN SOME PEOPLE PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
ECONOMY IS BAD ALREADY. PLEASE CANDID SHOW CHOOSE SOME OTHER FUNNY YET INTERESTING ONE TO SHOW. CANDID IS WORST SHOW . I PREFER Shows like Just for laugh.
Stupid Way to make someone aware of a disease. This qualifies to be a PRANK video, a harmless joke to raise a laugh. Any normal person will also look confused and bewildered in such a situatuion, unless he or she has seen prank videos like these on the net. Only a perverted mind can can relate this to a disease, a helpless condition that leads to pitiable situations for a person. This video-creator is quite likely to record a R**e video for creating awareness about A******n ; or, show chid-abuse video to create awareness about child safety. I APPEAL TO METACAFE MEMBERS TO SUPPORT A BAN OF SUCH VIDEOS. Please resond.

By Mike325 1227210231Very mean and not nice at all, there are far better ways to get the point across then this kind of very mean and not so funny humor. The laugh track was even more insulting. So I give it 1 star
By Foresttre 1227166745I thought this was interesting until the end when I was told about how Alsheimer's disease affects people. Then I thought it was in bad taste because my father's mother died from it.
Not cool, dudes. Not cool.
i have known people with the illness, or disease,.
you people should lighten up and learn to laugh, while you still can,.
funny yea,..
at the first, i taught it is funny but when i saw that grannys face, i got sad....
By maverickHR 1223761120it is getting out to mainstream ppl so they are awear!!! My gramma died this way, & Sorry to all that have to live with family that has this..... my thoughts are with you
By ARE U FOR REAL???? 1223622428i would have to admit if that were me and i dont have alzimers and wouldnt wish it on anyone if that was done to me that way i would be just like her at first but most lilely i would have looked around and found it and maby have knocked the ones who did that silly!! i dont think this add realy has the direction they need to get this type of message out it looks more like a joke/prank than a careing /comforting message !!!
By 0u8124me2yu 1223604538it's not bad at first. you start forgetting minor things like where you put something or what you just said. But then in a couple months you start forgetting names. Where you are, what you did, or even who you are. Usually, in the final stage of alzheimer's, the person ends up dieing because they forget how to breathe. THe brain completely wipes itself out of any sort of memory, even if it is something as basic as breathing.
That's how bad it can get.
Did you know that we breathe UNSCOUNSCIOUS? If it's up to us we would forget to breathe even without Alzheimer's disease when we're doing something very important.
By IO.com 1221942887But as the death of brain cells progresses, the non-vital functions are sacrificed as the basic vital functions keep getting shifted to undamaged portions of the brain. Eventually, as sections become isolated, and others die, the brain "runs out of space," and the person runs out of time. :(
By 1cyberpotato 1224478349so, how to avoid this disease...? i don't want my mom to suffer this... is there any medication?
By afifisa 1221879859The best we can do is just to keep our brains in use as long as possible. It's been shown that doing things like simple arithmatics and games like Brain Age can help reduce the risk of alzheimers or slow it down.
By iAsian 1221911424Unfortunately, shock therapy and humour are the only things that people who do not suffer from disease understand.

Common... the vid isn't to explain the disease!!! It's a funny add.... Why can't you enjoy it!
By danielni 1222441771Those comments have really touched me. Thou I havent really came across someone who suffers from the disaese, from those comments I can relate it to a disease which I nursed my brother but watched him pass on in my hands. He had an accident(car accident) and his brains were internally damaged. This led to internal bleeding which paralysed his right body side. Everytime I saw him, I thought he was getting better but in real he was deteroriating health wise. He finally passed on and I must admit this was the most painful moment in my life, taking into consideration that he was under my care til the time of his demise.
By krifu 1221723174i cannot express how sorry i am for your brother..i cannot imagine the pain you ve been through. you seem like a strong person,do not let yourself slip, i really respect you my friend and wish for you to stay strong.
