Where you get your info from? The use of replays was banned by FIFA, even if only for the crowd. That means that no replay is ever shown at any monitor in the stadium. So unless you saw it nobody knew why he got the red card.

Not only has Zidane got a hot temper but he'd been playing nearly two hours of football, tired and frustrated would have been enough of a reason not to keep cool. I also heard the rumour that Materazzi referred to him as a terrorist. It does also seem sad that the referee was influenced by Buffon and the big TV screens as it was only after the reply occurred that the red was pulled.

i hated the France team after they defeated Brazil. And I wanted them to lose. But the way Zidan completed his career was sad and I felt bad for him, because if he helped his team win that day he would have always been a hero and an idol to France and when he went back home he would have had a magnificent parade waiting for him and that would have been the last time we ever would have see him with that image in our head forever. But now we would remember him as the guy who lost control at such a bad time and fell to deliver victory to his team. Sounds like you need to be educated about "soccer". The French dominated the final against the Italians. The reason Italy won the bloody thing is because they play negative football or defensive football - like watching paint dry - and played for penalties France may have struggled out of the group stages, but then they beat both Spain as well as Brazil, something no other team could have dreamt of. They scraped through against Portugal, which is a difficult thing to do considering that they, much like the Italians, are cheaters. To be honest, the Italians played mediocre football against mediocre oppisition for most of the tournament. Sunday was a sad day for football.

I have been into football for awhile and participate in numerous discussions about all teams and more or less, if you actually pay attention to the games, not blinded by pride or go into the games with a bit of objectivity you would see Italy is NOT the best team in the world. We all know Materazzi said something but it's not sufficient reason for such violence. Zidane has a history of explosive violence on the pitch (And off it!). he loses control and the results are very often dreadful. He has been sent off before for similar actions.
The problem is that when you represent a COUNTRY and not just a team or yourself, there is a responsibility towards that Country to behave in a reasonable manner. I don't care what Materazzi said, he'll get his just desserts sometime. Zidane whom I think was one of the worl'd best players, has left the game not with an aura of heroism, but with an aura of violence and irresponsibility which will tarnish forever what should have been a shining image.
