They used to land over that beach too. But the runway is no longer used. shame. it is in Simpson Bay, St. Martin a Dutch and French island. in the caribbean. look at more pics of it on aviationpics.de. there r sum funny ones on there.

I forgot to mention that the pilots probably have to crank it up more than usual, because the runway ends onto a lake which is immediately followed by a somewhat tall mountain range. I am guessing they have to get the plane up as fast as possible.

I was at the same hotel a couple of years back. They were not kidding when they said the hotel is only minutes away from the airport! You pretty much smell jet fuel there all the time. I wish I had a camcorder back then. The view is also very interesting at night. You can see the huge cloud of white sand up in the air all over the beach. I actuall stood behind a 747, on the road that goes along the beach, taking off one day. One of the most exiting, yet scary, experiences I have ever had... I'd do it again if I ever go back to that damn island.

The pilot, upon realizing that his 747 had just blown some people into the ocean and immediately reversed his thrusters for a quick stop. The reverse of thethrusters created a huge back draft of air that sucked the poor blokes into the engines, chopping them into tiny pieces which the seagulls immediately ate, leaving no evidence that anything went wrong at the airport. No bodies, no deaths, no harm, no fail. Just a few people that went out for a beachfront stroll that never came back.

The heat has either risen up enough or has dissapated by the time it gets there. I used to work on S-3B's and you could still get knocked over at full military power, but it wouldn't be too warm. I do wonder if any of those poor people drowned though. Definitely not a great place to pack a picnic...

Despite what it looks like this is actually one of the highlights of st marteen, where it is filmed. The bar you can see at the end of the beach has all the flight times for people to come and hold onto the fence with goggles on....this is what happens if the dutch and the french try to share an island.....
