Short Film featuring 1990 IROC Camaro (G92) 5-speed vs. 1989 Mustang GT 5.0 Street Showdown. 3rd gen Street Racing Action
brought to you by StreetShowDriftDrags.com and produced by John "Trae" King @ NedacFilms... (not your typical sluggish automatic IROC cruiser here, this is a highly performance optioned TPI 5-speed with the full 1990 G92 performance package RPO codes ordered from the factory... Recording 1/4 mile times in the low 14 second range in stock trim. Shocking many 5.0 Mustangs and LT1 Z28s as well.

  • This takes me back to 1989

where is the SkidRow music though?LOL!!! I love this video! I remember riding and racing in these cars. The 80s, oh the 80s, I miss the 80s. I had a 1987 Formula and I miss that too. Excellent job editing the video also.

  • The G92 option and Tuned Port 3rd gens..

In 1990 the G92 option became a full "performance package" and if ordered with the 5-speed transmission, the car got the bigger Cam... The 1990 IROC, Formula and Trans Am with a 5-speed and RPO code "G92" were really the only 3rd generation cars that could hang with or beat the infamously quick 5.0 LX Mustangs.... Before 1990 the G92 option was simply a performance rear end option with 3.42 or 3.73 gears and posi-trac. Actually the '88 and '89 3rd gen cars with a 5-speed got the bigger Cam automatic. And if the car had options like G92, G80, N10, GU5 or GU6, in addition, were quite badass cars, and would not get owned by the 5.0 GT and LX. Unfortunatley the automatics were a bit slower than the 5-speed cars. But the L98 optioned 5.7 cars were a different story (and only offered with the 700R4 tranny). They could actually record 1/4 mile times in the mid-high 14 second range (bone stock keep in mind). But those little 5.0 Mustang LX coupes, AKA "Notchbacks" (trunk cars) would put up times in the low-low 14 second range, flirting with 13 seconds. Those cars were a couple hundred lbs. lighter than the other 5.0 Stangs... Also keep in mind that all this 3rd generation F-body talk is about the TPI (Tuned Port Injection) motors, not the TBI (Throttle Body Injection) there is a BIG difference... The TBI cars were not anything about performance, and rated about 50+hp less than the TPI... so don't get those confused. (TPI= good, TBI= bad) and also stock for stock, the 1986 motors had the weaker Cams, don't know why GM did it, but there was one bad year and it was '86.
Man, I could go on and on with these cars all day, sorry...

  • Awesome Video!!!

Is the Camaro stock or modified? I know that the G92 5-speed Tuned Port cars would give 5.0 Mustangs fits... They were a different breed compared to the sluggish automatics. I've actually read were the 5.0 Tuned port 5-speeds recording numbers comparable to the L98 5.7 350 Tuned Port cars, which didn't offer the 5-speed trannys in those models because the torque ratings were to high... Those TPI's were certainly torque monsters. Fun stop light to stop light action! Anyway, I gave you 5 stars on this one, sweeeeet!
