Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) or “Acid Reflux” is an abnormal reflux (Backflow) of gastric contents into the esophagus, creating a mucosal damage. This disease strikes adult, while infants and children can be affected. Eating certain foods, obesity, pregnancy, or sleeping right after eating a heavy meal can cause acid reflux from time to time.

Heartburn or acid indigestion is another name for acid reflux causes a burning uneasiness at the back of the sternum.

The symptoms may come as coughing, voice transformation, hoarseness, constant ear ache, or sinusitis. The complications brought upon by acid reflux may lead to esophageal ulcers or worse this can lead to esophageal cancer.

However, constant heartburn does not necessarily mean that one has GERD already. The risk occurs when heartburn happened more than once a week, and could develope into GERD.

    Lose weight.......I suffered many years with GERD....losing 25lbs cured me of this and the need to use Previcid and Nexium!

    If you have been diagnosed with a Hiatal hernia, weight loss may be the answer!

    Stop taking those pills and choose to loose!

      I quit eating after 7:00 pm. I used to had reflux before, but after I quit eating so late and going to bed, the reflux stopped. Occasionally, I eat later but as a rule I try not to eat after 7:00 pm.

    suffering from chronic hyperacidity since 12 ( i'm 36 already). it seems like no medication really work, if not expensive.

      I have just seen your comment re hyperacidity and you mention celium. Could you tell me what this is please? I am sick to death of my acid reflux and I am desperate to do something about it. I am about 2 stones (14 kilos) overweight but there are lot more people a lot more overweight than me. Any help would be appreciated
