ECHO PARK (KABC) -- A 19-year-old man from Inglewood turned himself into police Sunday night after a fatal hit and run accident in Chinatown.
Taivon Tyree Singleton was allegedly behind the wheel of a car that struck and killed Jose Francisco Silva, 48, of Pico Rivera, as he walked in a crosswalk at Bishop Road and North Broadway Saturday night.
Witnesses said Singleton was speeding and never slowed down even after hitting Silva.
"The person went over the hood and landed in front of the car and then the guy just drove over him" said Rosendo Geddes, who witnessed the accident. "I ran to try and catch the license plate but he was gone, he floored it."
Silva was taken to a hospital, where he died of extensive blunt force injuries, police said.
Silva and his family were just leaving a football game at Cathedral High School.
Singleton was booked on suspicion of felony hit and run and was being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
