According to the CDC, roughly 8% of the U.S. population (about 24 million people) suffers from diabetes, and very few of them are actually aware of their ailment. Dr. Jennifer Walden, a plastic surgeon at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan, says that Type 2 Diabetes, the more common form, is caused by a sedentary lifestyle. Most of those people could have prevented this from occurring by losing weight and exercising more often.
