In this eagerly awaited book, the cultural anthropologist Peter N. Jones brings fifteen years and over twenty-five projects to bear on one of the more controversial questions in contemporary American anthropology and American Indian studies. Are contemporary American Indian tribes of the American West culturally affiliated with the people who crossed over from Asia over 10,000 years ago? Have American Indians in the Plateau and Great Basin lived in their homeland for thousands of years as their oral traditions affirm? These are some of the questions he considers in Respect for the Ancestors.

  • But what does the book say?

I would not be discouraged simply by the music. True, the flute music is not specifically Native American, but perhaps it was the decision of the producer to utilize music in the public domain because of budget constraints. I would not let it discourage me from the message of the video or the potential importance of the book.

    HI
As a Native American/First Nations Person living in the USA.
I was very disappointed in this little preamble to a book that may or may not have some significance to the Native American Community
You see the composition that is used is not Native American but is very Japanese in character. Right way I was turned off by this slight that the producer of this video preamble has paid to the very subject of this book, that may or may not have some value to the Native American Community. To those who have made the attempt perhaps your efforts could be used in some other form or some other medium. I as a member of the Native American Community I will not be taking any more time then the writing of this missive in the book that your “film” was meant to introduce to us.
    Thank you,
    Darren Elk
