A look at an F 16 crash from an inside cam.
The Thunderbirds are the demonstration team of the Air force, and this manuever was well in the limits of the aircraft's capabilities. Basically, this is the pilot's job and he was not hot-dogging or shining his ass. The intake of an F-16 is huge, and it had sucked up a large bird. A large bird can do major damage in a very short time to a high performance jet engine...by "short time", I mean in half a heart beat. The pilots are trained to recognize dangerous situations immedicately and take the appropriate action. He elected to eject, which was obviously the appropriate action. If this seems like a waste of tax dollars, then write any of your Congress people...you have a representative from your particular area, and two senators for the whole state. Write a letter to them expressing your dis-satisfaction. They will be more than impressed with your prowess in the written word, and surely act promptly to your request.
By cowboy13 1154315215That makes a nice story, but there was no bird. It was caused by pilot error. He was supposed to climb to 200 0 ft before the roll, but only went to 1675.
He ejected 0.8 seconds before impact... wow.
Accident report summary:

0.8 huh... damn.
Pilot error, but good freakin job man. Great reflexes.
setting the record straight. I am stationed in Mountain Home, Idaho (that is where this occured) I was the ATC on that day and what happened is that the had come from a sea level show the week prior to this one which is 3000 feet above sea level. The pilot had forgotten to adjust his altimeter for ground level. This is actually a common error for alot of pilots, but not for this team. The pilot was cleared of all responsibility and countinued to fly for the duration of his tour.
Yes, it is a Thunderbird. Yes, it is also an F-16. His settings for the elevation of the show site were off. Every location they travel to, they must set up their instruments to know where the ground is in relation to sea level. Pilot error probably...if you do a Little research, you'll see an even more amazing still photo of the ejection. OK, I did the research for you. All of the info you could ever need is here. Or linked from here. http://www.ejectionsite.com/thunderbird6.htm
When you go into a loop like that, you need to stay verticle on the "up" leg of it before you go inverted and then onto the subsequent dive before the pull out and recovery at final. Many times you aren't even looking at the altimenter. because it's something you just feel. Even if you've never flown anything at all, get on a flight simulator and do the same thing. With practice you will know. You could tell that this pilot did not stay verticle long enough to go higher before he went inverted. I could tell that before he even started this routine. It was way too soon.
By JBrich 1267041396ok well he really did not get enough hight before he did the looop and that is a big big wast of money which is upsetting really cuz that is such an awsome aircraft. bet the others were pissed off lol

Not setting the altimeter was one stupid mistake but the ejection decision and the execution was excellent. Not many have such decision making ability.
By FtrPlt 1215379966they should put the controls of the ejector seat between the cheeks of his ass...he would have ejected 5 seconds earlier!
By mariner 1213984122does it matter what happened if he lived. And that probably cost each tax payer 5c if that. we should send some more british pilots over to show them how it done ;)
By blade3053 1191669067ooooooo it crashed, not a british pilot then!!!! were far to good for that ol bean wot wot wot. oh rathar
By montheman 1167601775cool, lucky for that man, that he dossen`t feel annything when he dide =). what a adrenalin kick it moust bee =) =) =)
By Theresita17 1164815819the pilot forgot to reset the altimeter before taking off, so it was giving an incorrect reading.

By cjski21 1163985650the f-16 c is only 13 million dollars, not 30. regardless, its alot of money but we lose more in training than in combat.
By cjski21 1163985792.. And btw any of you P***ys who say 'ohh asif you would jumpp out of billion dollar plane' 'oh he cant drive' i bet you would of shat your pants u F**ks . At least from what i see there a few good people.
By -~George~- 1155204237MORE CRASH .. PLS lol lol lol .. ha ha ha from arabia lol .. pls dont lit hem fly near the (NEW) comairshal tawers ... ha ha
By take it all 1154564890Sad if the guy died, he looked to eject just before it crashed. A fault with the plane. It all looked like a smooth display aswel before it happened.
By soundwave751 1154333331This is a old video (6yrs or so) of a USAF Thunderbird (the air demonstration team) in a F-16 Fightnig Falcon. So no, he does not have to pay for the aircraft and he is not a hotdog. It is actually his job to fly like that. The engine failed, he did not.
By Riphath 1154310051If you look closely there is a puff of smoke from the engine just before he ejected. Probably an engine failure or a bird-strike. The pilot analyzed it and ejected within a second of the failure. If he hadn't he would be DEAD. (assuming he survived -- I didn't see a 'chute...)
This pilot is amazing. Anybody who thinks he should be "charged for the airplane" is an idiot.
Does he get a bill from his job? Like "Nice one dumbass, that f-16 only cost us around 20mill bucks, so we'll have to deduct that from yer paycheck, and all because you had to show off! Jerk."
By JohnnyDust 1154260003Do you reallly think he did this on purpose!????His engine lost thrust and he had to bail or he would have died! I would rather lose a plane than a life!
By jack mee offf 1154052085might as well save the life and leanr from the experience for future improvements sake!
By Maximilius 1154151612where do you guys get your comment.... your all F**king idiots. eject once, doctors ground you for life. you also loose an inch of height.
By euro-peons; a-boot 1154230735The plane is allreqdy lost, now we have to ask if want also to loose the pilot.
It's not that we rather loose a plane than a pilot, it's weather we want to loose the plane and the pilot or just the plane.
"I crashed a multi-billion dollar plane, but who cares? I got my Martin Baker tie!!"
By Dayt 66 1154035780USA can't beat Russia in army technologies. Try to search and compare what american jetplanes can do and what russian jetplanes can do. I was laughing after seeing those USAF airshows. My advice - search for Sukhoi videos. That is the jetplane for 21st century. Not like the F22, F/A 18 etc. crap (and I am not even talking about F16<--- LOLplane).
By Lobotomizer 1154395621what a waste of comment you F**king jerk-off.
By euro-peons; a-boot 1154230657Like to take my car and roll it over a couple times for the thrill of it all and not have to pay for it.
