Cheltenham has been welcoming visitors for almost 300 years, ever since the discovery of the first natural spring led to the development of the elegant spa town of today. A unique and historic town with a population of 106,543, Cheltenham is also a cultural centre hosting an impressive calendar of international festivals and special events. Cheltenham is the most complete Regency town in England and one of the few English towns in which traditional and contemporary architecture complement each other. Among its famous visitors were members of the English and Continental Royal families, including Princess (later Queen) Victoria, the Duke of Wellington, and the novelists Jane Austen and Lord Byron. Cheltenham is a large spa town located on the edge of the Cotswolds, conveniently less than a hundred miles from London and an ideal base for touring into the Cotswolds, Stratford upon Avon and Bath.

Careful development and modernisation at the Cheltenham Ladies College means that the facilities are of a higher quality than most other educational establishments. The accommodation is of a very good standard and all sites have comfortable sitting rooms and are within 10 minutes walk of each other through some of Cheltenham's most pleasant residential areas. The town centre is literally at the door step of the school. The Sports Centre is situated on the site of the original Swimming Baths. Behind its listed frontage (1912) in Malvern Road is the magnificent, award-winning 25-metre swimming pool, opened in 1995 by Olympic Champion, Adrian Moorhouse. Adjoining the pool is a six-court sports hall, one of the largest in the county, which offers a wide variety of activities. In addition, there are two fully-equipped air-conditioned fitness suites, football and rugby pitches, squash and all-weather tennis courts.
