Half a turn won't turn the laser from IR to RED, different bandwidth, wavelength, i'm a laser engineer, DVD differ from the CD in the pit size of the media, using IR in CD cause the pits are large and compatiable with the IR wavelength, DVD has much smaller pits and need shorter wavelength that's why RED is used in the DVD, you go ahead and change it for another half to read BLU-Ray disc, that's not true

that's not true!!!
the turns made to the lens only affect the capability of lens to read the data from disc. you cannot upgrade the cdrom to dvdrom..., I'm working in samsung cd drive manufacturing as an engineer so i know that's not true.

Tried. No good
I tried ths on an ACER 50X cd-rom with no dvd results but the read time did increase a little bit for CD-roms.

is funny. i will contact you, you must be able to convert a dvd reader in a dvd writer, a cd reader in a blue ray player and a cdr disk into a cdrw disk. nice!
