A demonstration of the Quick Stick tactical baton. Created by martial arts master and renown law enforcement trainer, professor Georges Sylvain, the Quick Stick employs a "shovel-grip" handle to offer greater rotational force than straight and side-handle batons as well as a host of unique locking, restraint and control options.
Cool invention
but the video is crap, it just looks to fake and acted.
a lot of the locks he put on the guy have no power behind them they wouldn't hurt at all
By holkie 1225425915 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removein slow motion, the other guy actually broke the pole before he hit it with the stick
By rubberbandman 1225425832 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveLook at 1:20 in. Hahahaha that gonna work on who exactly
By kaniiver 1225732899 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removealot of move doesn't require that stick at all, but well keep creating =) I will be looking.
By Lights9 1225671926 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveLooks like it delivers a solid shot but I'm not a fan of attempting joint locks with sticks of any types. I work in law enforcement and think that's fantasy.
By Peter J 1225659176 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI teach tactical baton, both straight and side handle. The problem I have with tonfa like, PR-24 batons is that they are "intended" for locking but under stress they are just too complicated to really pull off. A straight stick remains the simplest weapon. That being said, agencies are sold on the perception of peacefulness PR24's advocate so something like this makes sense. In fact, as someone who has taught literally thousands of pr-24 certifications, I will admit the quick stick looks like it would be easier to teach for power swings and rotation just because the stick is ultimately centered with the arms powerline. The issue with PR-24's is that they recoil crooked and a lot of people have trouble learning to control them. There is merit here. I have to admit, I've even play with shovels and thought of this type of design before.
P.S. The previous post about "if this is so good why didn't the chinese think of it, time honored tonfa design, etc."...straight sticks evolved to side handle first, then to "t" handles like old shovel. The "D" handle shovel is a recent discovery in agricultural tools so I would counter, since the idea didn't crop up in agricultural circles (forgive the pun) despite the huge need there, it wasn't any more likely to show up on the battlefield. Even the tonfa handle was an extension of millstone handles. Food for thought. Straight sticks are still easier imo.
That was a pretty cool little weapon, maybe you should invent more. Could make you some money.
By Josiahjs 1225451105 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveInventer of said "weapon" should attempt to test this in at least real world (full protection worn--kumite/sparing sessions.)
If you happen to encounter anyone who has had a few classes of Karate at the local YMCA or even worse someone who has been to college or the local dojo for serious training, even for a short while....well, I have a felling it would mean disaster for the user of this Quick Stick. Even when I was just 7 or 8 my dad taught me enough to know that if you close the distance on any kick, punch, block, elbow, knee, throw attempt, or weapon, that you can render the attempted strike not only usless, but, render it an inventation to a severe and deabilitating counterstrike at the center point of the rotation of the prior assult with a trap, pull and dislocation of the offending appendage. Given this knowlege alone I would be more afraid of a broomstick, a baseball bat, or a regular tonfa styled police baton (which can deliver one hand full end high energy low surface area strike--unlike these techniques shown in this vidieo--the blunt high surface area 'wood knuckle' and the two hand flat end huge surface area low impact side end strike you deliver with the Quick Stick)
I do agree that there is one good strike this weapon can deliver however, and that would be the point forward, handle rear, two handed thrust forward. The only problem with this position is that a human could deliver an elbow strike with about triple the amount of force in about half the amount of time, and being far less likely to be deflected as your silly weapon.
Just makes me wonder why it wasn't discovered/invented by the Greeks, Romans, Chinese, Zulus or Native Americans. Each and every one of these came to realise that in a REAL combat situation the combination of a short shield and a short baton-type weapon is very, very hard to beat, which is why every police force in the world uses this combimation in riot-control situations.
I did mention I would be more afraid of a "...tonfa styled police baton" than this. I would rather face the fast slaps and the low surface area blunt blows of this pretend weapon than any of the numerous options of devistating blows that a tonfa / modern police baton (the 3 point type) is capable of. Not to mention the holder of a quick stick unlike the holder of a tonfa style weapon, is so much more likely to have his weapon taken away from him let alone just being trapped and joint locked at the wrist, elbow and shoulder points. Perhaps that is why the Chinese invented the tonfa centuries ago and still their modern day police carry them instead of carring a handle to a little red wagon.
