Antonov an 225

  • It would have been nice

To see the plane open up to see the cargo hold. Also to see it take off.

Also, I agree, Hughes was an amazing aeronautical engineer in his day. If he had access to todays technology I'm sure he could have at least matched the 225. But that in no way takes away what great things the Russians have been doing with their aircraft and spacecraft.

  • The Spruce Goose, (Hughes H-4 Hercules),

isn't as long as this plane, but otherwise makes it look like a kid's RC model. >;^)

    • what a ridiculous comment

they differ by only 9 metres in wingspan (10% difference) but the Antonov is substantially longer and has a takeoff weight of more than 3 times that of the H4. Besides, the H4 only ever flew about one mile at about 21 metres, at which height it was still experiencing ground effect (i.e. it is unlikely it could ever have flown at altitude of more than a few metres without the ground effect assistance).

    • You seem to be unable to appreciate

an ironic, tongue-in-cheek comment, made for humorous purposes. Even the 'wink' did not alert you.

    • Not to mention...

It was built about...oh....lets say 75 years ago give or take a few....

So yeah, I think Mr. Hughes deserves some props.
