Snowy Mountains which are south-west of Canberra is where the Great Dividing Range climbs to a blunt peak of Mt Kosiuszko, the highest point in the continent. Here in a place called Cooma you can visit the Snowy Memorial erected in the memory of the 121 people who lost their lives to work on the Hydro-electric scheme and the statue of A.B Banjo Patterson the poet who wrote the famous poem Man From Snowy River. You can also see some magical vistas by taking the skitube Alpine Railway from Bullocks and visiting Thredbo or Perisher valley. Apart from skiing there are a range of other activities that can be done in the Snowy Mountain region like horse riding or visiting the historic Hydro-Electric Scheme site
