      I'm not sure who you are trying to impress with your claim of this video being a fake. I, for one of many, simply laugh at your ignorance. And you keep it up!! I am also a pilot and know this is possible - certainly amazing - but very real. This pilot did an incredible job of handling a situation that was totally into the realm of non-recoverable for almost ANY other pilot. If you were ever in a damaged aircraft as a passenger - you want this guy at the controls!

      The detail in the video is not possible with even the most sophisticated graphic software in the hands of a master. I know this as a computer graphics software practitioner.

      If your intent was to get some attention with your asinine claim - then "you win". You got my attention. My only fear now is that you may actually vote in an important election or even worse - reproduce!

      Grow up - get a life!

      This is a very obvious fake. I could not tell at the begining of the video but at the end you can tell by the extreamly fake motion blurring. Watch the end a few times and you'll see what I mean. To anyone who does not think this is possible with today's video technology, well then you havent been to the movies any time recently!
      Planes can land with one wing.......Its happened before, in fact there is a story of an Isreali pilot doing just this here on Metacafe. This is just not a real video. Another way to tell that this video is fake is by paying close attention to the speed of the aircraft when it lands. It slows down much faster than physics could allow for. The makers of this fake video conviently place a focus blur right at the moment the plane slows down. They probably did not have enough background footage of the airfield to be superimposed on for a realistic landing. Don't get me wrong, Im not saying that the landing itself was impossible. I know planes with one wing have landed before. Im just saying that the physics involved with the quick slowdown after the landing was not possible, and anyone who watches closely would have to agree.
      Anyway the physics involved with a one winged plane landing- totally possible. This video, however is totally, completely fake and I believe that anyone who watches it closely can see.

  • This is NOT fake.

    The pilot uses the fuselage as an airfoil ... then the rudder becomes the elevator ... The "ground effect" (compressible air between the ground and the fuselage giving lift) allows the vertical left aileron to level out on the gear and land. - USAF Pilot 20 years, Masters Aerospace Engineering.

    ladies n gents this is very real. there is a news article on the guy who landed it. and if anyone says you cant fly on one wing in a death spiral, they're wrong. as you can see, he simply used prop power since the engine on stunt planes like that is super powerfull.

    Raptorcat is right about the F-15 losing a wing and still landing but the F-15 has a flat underbelly and enough speed to provide lift.

    I DO believe a skilled pilot MIGHT bring this plane down and not be killed but the plane would have been mangled.

    A good effort and convincing CGI, but CGI it is.

    When the plane bounces it happens too fast as if the animator didn't really get his physics right.Also when the prop spins down is a dead give away.I pride myself on spotting CGI and I challenge ANYONE to fool me with even present technology.

    Unlike many of the writers here, I know nothing about video editing and 3D real-like animation. However, as a pilot I do know about flight and what I see here is outstanding in many aspects.
    For those who claim this is a real event - does anyone have more details about this event? Where and when did it happen? Are there any articles or media coverage about it?

    There is only one pilot that I know of that has ever landed a plane that had lost a wing. The plane was an F-15 and the Pilot was in the IADF.

    A 300 special or Sukoi aerobatics aircraft could never do that. Look at the landing and the way he bounced. It was edited in, post production and computer generated.
    Anyone who thinks this is real knows nothing about aviation.

    I believe this pilot did make this landing.This was a highly aerobatic type air craft and with his skills and a little luck,yes I believe this pilot did it. Great viewing.

  • Thats an actual stunt aerial manuver

    Thats the pilots stunt, the wing is made to be "Released" and then the pilot "performs" the landing. actually the grand finale to the act.
    Perhaps there is an edit, but most likely putting 2 performances together to make a good video. But the stunt is real.

    It does tweak the imagination, that it's possible, and those stunt planes do have enormous engines, and can literally "hang on the propeller" but a safe landing???? the guy had to have balls of steel, to react so fast, IF it's a real video. I dont think so tho...
