  Back here in Southeast asia, mastery in this so called sepak takraw is a cutting edge to be a striker in soccer,... You know, with all those over head kicks, you could do the same thing in the soccer field,.. :) But only in Thailand and Indonesia, except Malaysia,... That's why the Malaysian football team sucks,.. LOL!

  Sepak Takraw was created by the royal family of Malaysia about 500 years ago. The name itself comes from two languages. Sepak is "kick" in Malay, and Takraw is the "ball" in Thai. When it is born, It looked like Japanese "Kemari", and some became a circle, and a pole was kicked, and the number of times was being competed in. It looks very similar to the Japanese traditional game, "kemari" where the players form a loose circle and the number of times the ball is kicked before it touches the ground is counted. In 1965 the game was unified into the present volleyball style with the addition of a net and the adoption of international rules

  if u guys wondering where malays people come from and why this game name is same in Indo and Malay....well, this is the story..long ago they came from indonesia, their leader "Parameswara" was the royal in Sumatra island. at the time Majapahit Kingdom in Java are at war with them...and "the Malays" lost and fled to Tumasek (now Singapore). in Singapore although they are welcome by the locals with open arms they kill them all and continue running to Mallaca. that where they built new kingdom, they were once known as the pirates of south east asia coz they always attack ships around Java and Sumatra islands.

this game is called sepak takraw!! it came from malaysia and the other one you name is sipa from philippines.. there's a big difference between this two beacuase in sepak you must hit the ball twice before u strike a total of tree hits.. while in sipa only one strike is allowed.... but i think the rules are the same!! im from phil. and i learned this from my sports class!!
