Dwight Frye as Vint Glade in "Man to man" 1930.

After the Hardinville police initially accuse Mike Bolton and his father John of stealing two thousand dollars from the town bank, Vint (Dwight) is brought in to the police station upon Emily's insistence. With a plan to present false witness against Vint, Emily feels certain that she can make him confess to the crime. And confess he does, admitting to taking the money only to make Mike Bolton look bad in Emily's eyes, Vint pours out his heart to the entire room.

This is easily Dwight's best part in the film. When he cries out that he loves Emily you honestly believe that this situation is really happening to him. He was brilliant.

  • hi :) so nice to see you here again :)

well you're obsessive when it comes to posting, and i'm obsessive when it comes to watching stuff about dwight, so we are a good pair. hehe :)
yes, his characters always have something sympathetic about them, no matter how villainous. i do believe it was just his own goodness shining through, as you said--and it's also the mark of a good actor to make his characters well-rounded, because no one, real or fiction is entirely good or bad. he humanized his characters, somehow, which makes it easier for us to identify with, and feel for them. :) i guess this is why he is immortal, despite hollywood's efforts to achieve the opposite, i.e. editing him out of movies, and giving him just bit roles. :) it's true, the cream does float to the top, even long after his death. :) thanks for telling me that the videos are available on youtube, and ning, too. :) everyday, i watch something of dwight frye, and it makes me happy. :) glad to hear from you, even here. tc!

    • Agreed!

That is an excellent and wonderful point- Dwight did make his characters well rounded, and it is completely true that no person is all bad or all good, and he depicted that perfectly. He did humanize his characters which makes them sympathetic and understandable in a way.

I like your attitude- Hollywood may have tried to keep him down, but the cream does float to the top and we're here now to show him the respect that he has always deserved:)

I am always happy to feed the obsession- Er....I mean interest, yeah, that's it:)

  • poor vint/wonderful dwight

every little thing he did was magic. :)

he's so expressive, so responsive to his fellow actors--and no matter what role he played, his character always somehow was sympathetic...maybe it was just his own goodness as a person, showing through. :)

i'm so glad i saw this scene. thanks again for uploading it. :)

    • Hi there:)

Yes, it is me, AGAIN! I do get around when it comes to posting Dwight Frye videos on-line. In fact, I am rather obsessive you could say:)

I am glad that you enjoyed these film clips. They are also available at "Ning" and "You Tube" too. Dwight did an excellent job in this film, he was so expressive and his performance was so heart-felt.

I have often commented to other fans that even when Dwight played a villian type role, some sort of goodness seemed to always shine through which made the character sympathetic. This isn't to say that he didn't do an astounding job of disappearing behind the role, because he most certainly did. But I do think that his own good heart was visible in a way:)
