  • It's too dangerous!

The bottle can easily fall and easily spreads fire everywhere.
But the most dangerous thing about this is putting water in the bottle; the bottom part of the bottle stays cool while the upper part of it heats causing inevitably the bottle to explode within a few hours of use. It's just physics.
Please for the safety of your home or your children, DON'T attempt this.
Don't take it personally Curbly thinking i'm just trying to ruin your "how to" item you posted here on metacafe but realise how this can be a "how to easily set fire in your house" and i know you didn't intent to hurt anybody but prevention is better than cure...
Anyway, for the presentation i'll give 5*.

    • hmm...

I've let my bottle burn for 3 or 4 hours straight and it didn't heat up at all. The only part that gets hot is at the very tip--the top nut--by the wick. I'm not sure about tip-over-fire-spreading, because I didn't test that part ;). However, I saw a manufactured wine bottle oil lamp topper at a winery which gave me this idea. In many liquour stores you can also find them, including ceramic wine bottle toppers that converts them into lamps as well. I haven't seen any overt warnings on them--just don't let them go unattended--like any candle.
