The Beginning Of The Tsunami In South India

It actually happened in a beach in the Island of Penang situated in the Peninsula of Malaysia. These people filming the Tsunami were speaking Cantonese. The beach where this Tsunami hit is called Batu Ferringhi.

I din experience it because I am in Canada but it din hurt a lot.

this is Penang... we never thought our island would've been hit by a natural disaster like that... Malaysia isn't even in the Ring of Fire!! Malaysians were totally unprepared for the tsunami...

Just to let everyone out there know 3 things, I have friends around the world... some as close to this as Jakarta and Southern India (luckily they are safe) and this really happened very very quickly...

2ndly, although the US weather systems picked it up and yes maybe if there had been a warning system in place then SOME lives could have been saved but the speed that wave came in I doubt that everyone in it's path was gonna get outta the way in time so some would have been killed, unfortunately, regardless.

3rdly, I'd like to encourage you to donate, be it straight cash, blankets and clothes or something more origninal like my postcard swopping group are sending ecards to everyone that signs up for the swop and donating the money they would normally spend on the postage for these swaps to their local collections for the Tsnami relief, my little 3 year old has done his bit too, collecting £40 ($80) in a sponsored walk with his Playgroup.

God bless their souls, those dead, those left, those donating and those clearing up the mess. Good luck to all.

The US and Europe picked up the zunami hours before it hit. They checked their data against each others and then came to a conclusion that this would happen. They then tried to inform the gov. of the affected countries but to no avail since they dont have a system where radio stations are called and the public is notified within a short time. It took 4 hours from the time it was registered to the time the waves hit. The sad thing was that people only had to get off the beaches and go inland 500 to 1000 meters and they would have been ok.

As for the sake of donation, Im against it, you dont know where your money goes! Thats why you have the UN and EU services who come in and help. My tax money goes to these people so they can help in an event such as this.

But funding private org. is not helping... im sorry but its the truth. Gov. run services are better.

Most seniour officials in all of those countries can be contacted via phone 24hrs a day...if they don't answer,their advisers will.
And you say 500-1000 meters inland?? HAHAHA,seen any satellit images of Aceh or Sri Lanka? It was know to go up to 3 kilometers inland in certain places,not to mention being 10-20 feet deep by the time the water stopped rushing in......The only safe place was in the hills,or on top of tall buildings.

its so sad watching this clip cause you know many of the people we see on the beach were dragged into the ocean where they drowned.
although you might not understand what they are saying, you can hear their voices change from playful surprise and laughter to terrified screams as they realize the full force of the waves.
i only pray this never happens to me and the ones i love.
