By Denn 1155784459 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removethe water could be, at best, described as a heavy mist Of no consequence to the fire and a waste of money to the tax payer. If I'm wrong about the effects of this shower, please put me right.
By Haphazard 1155677299 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThis isnt a water tank airplane this is an fuel flush test for emergency landings
By AKTKGO 1155664768 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removethis is in fact a water dump
By krispykreme82603 1226379304 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThis was not a fuel dump. 747's can not dump fuel from the tail section. This was a test water dump done at high altitude for deminstration. A fire fighting dump would be at 400-800 ft. The stall speed for a 747 is less than 140 not 210 or it would never be able to land. They would do a real dump with the plane in landing configuration, flaps down. It dumps water under preassure so it can be higher than current version. It won't have to do tight turn in a canyon. The real question is why is the FAA dragging it's feet when billions of dollars of California are going up in smoke.

By historymaster 1155693217 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveA Boeing 747 flying at 800 ft?? I know it can do this but imagine the forest fire that it will create should it ever drop a little too low. But it's ok, we can just bring in more planes! Not to mention the fuel this thing is burning! Only in the USA I think....
By WalterWabbit 1155684921 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removenow i know from where comes the rain
By daeux 1155684710 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveHow long will it take for this this plane to take off, drop its load, land and reload? the minimun speed for this plane before stalling is about 210 mph dropping the load at that speed is like dropping a bucket of water from a car going 25 mph it would loose its effectiveness, besides that how manoeuvrable this plane is what if it needs to turn on a dime?, to land this thing you need a really long runway not like the c130 o smaller planes currently used for that kind of job that can land on almost any kind of runway.
By ietk 1155663186 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removewhereas smaller craft like the Bombardier C215 even if hold only about 1/10th of this one, it can turn around a hell of a lot faster. aim for the nearest lake, scim over the surface, go back for drop, this one actually has to land, reload water/retardant, take off and go back to drop zone.

By Oh.............. 1155658963 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removehow wud it put out a fire that high and if its reli low it wudnt hav enuf tyme 2 put all the fire out and release all the water
By proud2bebritish 1155658814 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThis is an Evergreen Intl. Boeing 747 during the certification process for what they hope will be a water bomber. The airplane is equipped with a pressurized water tank in the fuselage to allow metering and prevent excessive G-loads on the wings and the airframe. The aircraft should be able to fly as low as 800 feet above ground level when it is certified.
By FL510 1155656325 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removethat knows what this is. I saw a documentary on this very plane. It's kind of funny reading the comments though.
