  • ..

the funny thing is the YF-23 had better manuverability than the f-22 withouth thrust vectoring, it also was harder to detect. and the migs Have a fairly small RCS i believe they may be smaller than the typhoon, which on another point also has supercruise. READ people

    • F-22 has

the equivelent of 2 super computers on board, the computers merge the data into 1 simple display for the pilot & even prioritise threats. it allows the pilot to focus more on tactics. Plus it can link to other F-22's & share information. 1 plane can use radar & share the radar data with other aircraft (Kind of like a flying aegis cruiser). The radar is super advanced & has a Low probability of intercept mode meaning that the enemy won't detect it. plus the engines can push the aircraft to mach 1.5 without using a fuel guzzling afterburner. How much smarter can you get.

    • you're a moron

this is a smart jet fighter dumbass...it's the only one ever created that can fly at supersonic speeds without using afterburners. supercruise is the S**t .

    • The YF-17

Was able to supercruise with a light weapons load. that aircraft which lost out to the F-16 in air force service & was developed into the F/A-18 was the inspiration for the supercruise requirement.

  • Dog fights

Certainly changes the idea of a dogfight where the object isto get behind the enemy. If all you have to do is stand on your own tail, pivot 180 degrees and fire a rocket that chases your victem.

  • Awesome? Yes. (I still might put my mone...

It should win a dog fight, but who is fighting that war?

  • F 22 is GOOD... but is it really needed?

The F-22 might win against any other aircraft, but you also have to consider it's costs, which are 3 times higher than a normal Eurofighter Typhoon... now is it really worth that much? not really.

What is surprising is WHY is F 2 needed in the US army?? they said it's gonna hunt enemy plnes from afar using stealf and smart expensive bombs, so it doesn't really need all that manuvrability... an YF could do the same job (or maybe there is a way to detect stealf technology).. to me it just seems like an EGO move, to show off, not that they really need it.

As for the russian Mig's and Sukoi, until the end of the 80's they were the best, but now lack of funding stoped the russian development of new airplanes.

Anywy the age of man piloted combat aircrafts is near it's end... as for how "NEW" the techs in the plane are.. well it was developed in the early 90's so it's at leats 10-15 years old the tech in F 22... so just imagine what kind of military projects they have right now.. with nanotechnology, IT, satelite comunication, new smart materials and revolutionary ram and plasma engines.

    • The reason is

that the U.S. military learned a lesson from the vietnam war, they had thought that dogfighting was obsolete, that Intercepters would shoot missiles from beyond visual range. They got to veitnam & suddenly the civilian rules of engagment wouldn't allow BVR engagments, the Missiles often wouldn't work right & aircrft were being shot down by migs using cannons piloted by pilot's who could barely fly. since the end of vietnam, no American combat service will buy an aircraft that cannot mix it up in a close dogfight. plus the cannons have been the most used weapons system in combat in Iraq & afganistan.
