I recall when they did this test in my region. I would question the results when I have always heard that while the transport container was intact it did actually suffer a crack.

    • I'm with you on that one

AND in theis day and age, trains go a lot faster. Two trains both doing high speeds in a head on would cause an issue

    • Yeah, what about intentional sabotage?

I'd bet some goof-ball camel jockey with an AK could figure out a way to open one of these babies up. There's not a whole lot holding you back when using a torch. And I'll also bet that the same tools that built these casks would be very useful getting them back open. The moral of the story is: the Brits want to dump their nuclear shi't in somebody's back yard or under somebody's house somewhere and they are resorting to all this pomp and circumstance to convince us that this junk is safe and that it'll never EVER end up leaking into the water table or the ocean, which is where they've been dumping the stuff up until now. Just throwing it overboard, way far away from THEIR shores. And every other nation that's playing with this crap faces the same dilema.

    • Yeah, that's where my money is.

And we still DON'T need oil/fossil fuels, and we don't need to keep refining nuclear garbage that will remain hazardous eternally either, and more people are realizing this every day. What we have here are only temporary 'solutions' that move the problem 50 or 100 yrs down the road when 'we' won't be hear to take the blame when it causes a catastrophy...it won't be our problem then. And we still have fat-cats that are pulling down fortunes designing, building, running nuclear facilities that the human race does NOT need.

  • well I guess that was a realistic test

...and droppping a bomb could be debated over and over....these flasks are for rail transportation of hazadous fuels chemicals and nuclear material. I think testing at full force and speed is something that should be done for our safety in case a real accident happens.

  • What a waste of money.

Why not just drop a bomb on it?
