The latest Sony BRAVIA televisions have introduced a new technology called Motionflow. This technology improves the viewing experience by increasing the number of frames shown per second. Standard televisions show on average 50 clips per second hence they are commonly known as 50Hz televisions. The images appear quite slow to the human eye and produce a juddery image. With Motionflow technology, the picture is enhanced, by examining the image as it appears on the screen and then creating and inserting additional clips to ensure a smoother transition between frames. Sony have recently introduced the worlds first Motionflow 200Hz television, the BRAVIA Z4500 which has three transitional images and shows 200 clips per second.
This video demonstrates the differences between the picture quality of a regular television with that of a television with Motionflow technology. The most effective way to simulate and explain this difference is in the form of a flick book. The first flick book demonstrates how a normal television displays images. It shows a jerky scene, which is hard to follow, as the sequence jumps and omits some frames. The second flick book displays the same video but how it would appear with Motionflow technology. The picture is much smoother with no frames missing, providing a higher quality of viewing experience. The two flick books are then compared and it is clear to see the differences and enhancements that Motionflow offers.
The video displays the freestyle soccer tricks of Dan Magness. Dan is one of the worlds top football freestylers, holding a number of records for his football skills. Dan is planning to break three more Guinness World Records as part of a forthcoming advertising campaign.
