An idea for a dry beach
Silicate, that repels water - Hmm, so windshilds would not need wipers, comuter boards coated with this would be imperious to water accidents, rain coats that would stay dry in the rain. Wow, bathroom paint that would not mold, wetsuits that weren't. Yeah, beats me, I can't think of any uses either.
By Imaginator 1141860332 Reply Spam [+18] Moderate Up Moderate Down Remove... to cost of manufacture. If it's phenominally more expensive, then it will greatly curtail the number of markets it could penetrate. Those ideas you list are good ones, though, and there are many more...but if the cost of manufacture is too high, or its ability to bond with other materials is too low, it would greatly criple its marketability. Hopefully they'll work that stuff out, this looks pretty cool.
new inventions are an act of willpower and effort, mostly. Like that toy inventor that spent 10 years inventing solid-color bubbles (read it in a article in Popular Science). Really, it's the water-soluable and surfactant- binding vanishing dye that they invented that really is cool, but hey, if you work through the problems a lot of things are possible. You just better have a market to justify it!
windshields are made of glass (ie silicate or lamens terms, sand ) = 100% hydrophobic
computer boards are made form plastic and metal = 100% hydrophobic
raincoats are made of PVC or other plastic = 100% hydrophobic
bathroom paints can be oil based = 100% hydrophobic
wetsuits are made to get wet. Your thinking of dry suits, which are made of rubber = 100% hydrophobic
basicly every use you suggested is pointless. Before you bash someone else, it's good to actually know what you're talking about first......
well as much as computer parts are hydrophobi-c, water can cause to re-route electric currents on your computer, thus making it suceptible to short circuit.
By nathancgo 1156389019 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeok...first of all, keyboards would need it ...they are made of plastic and metal ...but it would need some type of cover because water accidents do result in a ...how can I say this, catastrophic electricution .... keyboard...
P.S. Remember ...a keyboard is run by electricity ....DUH!!!!
Sincerely,
Chelsea Gamblin, 13 year old from Palmdale Ca
Keyboards are not run on enough power to even jolt the human body. The power isn't even strong enough to pierce the first layer of skin.
By Reaper621 1215374305 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveElectrocution means that the person would die from the electric shock. I don't think any one's been electrocuted by their keyboard. Also, don't call someone an idiot if you can't spell all the words you use right.
By Zanbatou-sama 1157056192 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removethat old "you spelt a word wrong" crap - IT DOESN'T MATTER. Of course, if it did, quote "..think any one's been electrocuted by.." it's "anyone's" not "any one's"

You're joking right? Silicate is made from silicon, not sand or glass.
It is a completely different substance.
Maybe you should know what you're talking about before you get all huffy puffy and do the same thing you're blaming them for.
Those suggestions were actually pretty creative, and would be damn good uses...
I always enjoy posts that claim people are idiots... yet the content of the post is completely retarded. Let me help you out, son.
If you had actually passed your chemistry class, you would know that sand... which glass is made of.... is Silicon Dioxide, also shortened to Silicate. Perhaps next time you will pay attention to the chemistry teacher, and not be so quick to tell someone they are unintelligent when you, yourself, have displayed unintelligence.
Good job representing your home town, though.
Bioni Paints are all non-toxic, no voc's and best permanently prevent growth of mold. Nano-technology.

By ahsocurious 1144795410 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Remove...you'll learn more about in biology... but basically it means it doens't interact with water, and doesn't mix with it.
