That video is Hezbollah proaganda of what is *CLAIMED* was an Isreali warship that they blew up. Thats probably why the Hebrew writing is there.

The second HMAS Torrens (DE 53) was a River class destroyer escort laid down by the Cockatoo Docks and Engineering Company Propriety Limited at Sydney in New South Wales on 18 August 1965, launched on 28 September 1968 by Dame Zara Holt, DBE, and commissioned on 19 January 1971.

HMAS Torrens paid off in 1998 and was sunk as a target by the submarine HMAS Farncomb off Western Australia on 14 June 1999. Digitally edited film of the torpedo hitting the hulk of HMAS Torrens was used in the movie Pearl Harbor, and one of the photos was used as Hezbollah propaganda. [1]

Message to people who claim it isn't a River class destroyer escort by the name of HMAS Torrens - you don't know what you are talking about. Of course it's a river class - look up your Janes, for God's sake! Plus I remember seeing the footage when it happened. Then we had to deal with the ignoranceof the press who didn't understand how modern torpedos work! I really don't want to go through all of that again.

This is HMAS Torrens, a River Class destroyer escort, being sunk by a MK - 42 Torpedo, which was fired from the Collins Class Sub, HMAS Farncomb. This occured on June 14th, 1999. Modern torpedos do not hit the ship ;o)) they explode underneath it and create a shock effect that breaks the infrastructure of the ship. Much more efficient...

As a former Australian Naval Officer I can confirm that the vessel was HMAS Torrens and the torpedo was fired from a Collins class submarine.
