    You're using the same method apply in multiplying binomials.

    • Your observation is right

      Foil method is a mathematical pattern. You can use it for Algebraic as well as Arithmetic (number) multiplication. Usually people use FOIL for just Binomial Multiplication of Algebra.

      By making this FOIL pattern more visual (Rainbow), I have extended its application even further. Using the Rainbow pattern you can easily multiply Bino x Bino, Bino x Trino, Trino x Trno so on in just one line .

      The best part is you can use the same pattern (Rainbow) to directly multiply any 2 Digit x 2 Digit numbers, 2 D x 3 D and 3D x 3D so on .

  • The idea of leaving a gap...

    seems to work when all your numbers are bellow the digit 5. I tried to multiply 66 by 77 and the idea of leaving a gap doesnt work. Instead you have to put the sum of the inside and outside numbers above the two middle digits ie 84 above 24 of 4242 to get your 5082. Worse still you will have to carry the the ten you get from 8+2 to the 4 to get your 5. This is not as shoet as you say it. But thanks for the idea - it works.

      Thanks for reminding me that I am fool and stupid. You are right there are many smart people in this world (like you) who can mentally multiply all 2 digit numbers in few seconds that too without using any trick. Then there are savant geniuses like Daniel Tammet and Kim Peek who can multiply even 5 digit numbers as easily and without any special trick. But I am sure there are many ordinary people like me who are not as gifted with divine Mathematical powers as you are. We may require some special techniques to calculate fast and easily.
