  • I don't believe the ...

I don't believe the loans can or will be paid back. Doesn't the debt of your government scare you though? I agree on one hand being alarmist doesn't help but it doesn't hurt to prepare. I think it's also important not to be complacent and question what your government's doing. I went to High School there and I'm quite frankly worried about my friends there. I honestly hope you're right.

  • billsaintkilda: ...

billsaintkilda: well said. I respect your opinion, especially about warped corporate socialism.
But to compare our current (or past) economic policies to those of the Soviet Union or socialism is alarmist and inaccurate.
I would suggest that you and I focus on the difference between "bailout" and "bridge loan" and that we give some thought to what a new caring and successful government role is during this time of globally connected economies.
    Don't be scared, be informed.

  • 4lafs. I'm not ...

4lafs. I'm not American but I am someone who likes the place a lot. And it's so plain to see that your country is falling apart. The whole world will have problems but a lot of countries are better prepared. If you remember back to the late 80's how quickly the whole Soviet empire fell apart. The same will happen to the US. Socialism didn't work then and this warped Corporate socialism that the US fed is getting away with, aint gonna work either.

Ironically, prior to the Romans existence, the Chinese (who invented paper, currency, everything) debased their currencies hundreds of time, roughly once per emperor... check it out for yourself, lol, typical ethnocentricism from someone who should know better.

  • Nice to see a well ...

Nice to see a well written, thoughtful comment. And your concern for the hardship of people means you are one of the good guys.

Maybe you are right and I'm in denial. I would just ask that you consider that since we agree the sky is not falling :) that we just pay attention to the detail of our leadership, and not be so willing to tear it down.

  • Sorry 4lafs you are ...

Sorry 4lafs you are sadly mistaken. It's unfortunate to see misguided, uninformed people in denial of reality as you are. For your own good you really need to wake to the reality and severity of the economic problems facing us. You're right the sky is not falling, but our economy is and it will not be life as we've known it moving forward. Life goes on but it will bring much hardship to most people, especially those in denial. Those aware of the issues will be able to adapt and possibly thrive

If you are so scared, why do you continue living here? Why not go to where you think it's better?

Yeah sure 4lafs. America is the best and always will be the best no-matter what. You are living in a fantasy world, good policy made us great and bad policy can break us.

  • fristintal1 - small ...

fristintal1 - small minds like yours are easily scared then influenced. Stop and think for a minute (maybe an hour in your case). We are the most powerful and thriving nation in the history of the world. Yes mistakes have been and will be made along the way, so keep your eyes and ears open.
Look, you can keep pressing your pathetic thumb down votes on me all night, but it doesn't make you right.
The US will be fine, the sky is not falling, and you're okay too. Don't be scared son.

  • I understand why ...

I understand why some would be angry about what Mr. Rogers says. However, I was unhappy to learn from the General Accounting Office how much each American owes on unfunded federal obligations. {See GAO: USA is living beyond its means.) I fear some in our government think the solution is to devalue our currency. Unfortunately, that is bad for foreign investors who buy U.S. Treasury Obligations --which we need. Worse, it is terrible for Americans expecting entitlements in their golden years.
