  Its because of the magnus effect. It states that a fast moving object depending on its size, will not be affected by high and low pressure, which is what causes a soccer ball to "bend" while it's spinning. Once the ball slows down a bit, the side the ball is spinning towards, or the low pressure side, is preferred as there is less pressure on the ball, so it moves that way. He just kicked the ball hard enough to get by the wall, and to the net, and with tons of spin so it would curve at about the halfway point towards the goal.

second best goal
it is the best free kick ever indeed... i was watching the match on TV and as carlos shot the ball i said "wtf? it is way wide" but after the ball sworved back and into the goal i said "WTF?... HOW THE HELL CAN HE DO THAT???" it is a very amazing shot indeed

however it was ranked the second best goal for the past millennium right after Denis Bergkamp goal in Argantina... that was a classey display of skill indeed.
