that was EVEL KANIEVIL stuntman and dare...
he was supposed to go over the river but the engineering was poor the parachute broke open slowing the takeoff he was later shown on TV and criticizing the engineer calling him stupid

- This is not Evel Knievel...
  It is Ken Powers trying to jump the St. Lawrence River in 1979. The car had enough power to clear the river but the car body was faulty and came apart seconds after it left the end of the ramp. Evel tried to jump the Snake River canyon in 1974 and at 485 feet deep it took Evel 20-25 seconds to touch down in the bottom of the canyon.
