  • It is no wonder

Those guys make a pretty good wage. No room for error doing that "line" of work. Braver than I.

  • i dont know what to say

First nobody in their right minds would near a helicopter to 50 feet of anything much less cables that sway in the wind, second cable repairmen always!!! are grounded, third it is a lot easier and safer to do it from below, climbing the poles. This video its either a fake or these people are extremely stupid. if it is real than my respects and sympathies goes to those men and their families, but they probably (definetely should) get paid a lot.

    • yeah yeah yeah, yap yap yap

Since you say so! Has to be true.

There are some sound effects added, and I wonder if there aren't some visual effects as well. But look at the surroundings, it would take you (especially) half an eternity to get to the location.

    • Yeah well,

This really fascinated me so I did some research. And sure, there actually is something called Faraday Cage. And it works just as described in the video. Look it up. Pretty cool!

I really resent people that just have to degrade a person because he/she's showing extraordinary skills - or simply has something nice to brag about. Are there any others in here that think this is fake?

    • No, it's you who are stupid

When deal with live electric cable, one should NEVER be grounded: if you touch the wire with 1 hand, and touch the other hand to the ground, then you are DEAD because a current will flow from the wire to the ground via your body. That's why all cable workers wear special insulating clothes to insulate themselves from the ground.

The use of helicopter is needed in the extreme case of high voltage, because it's the perfect way to insulate from the ground. What the man did at the beginning was to balance the electrical potential between the wire and the helicopter. Here is an easy way to think about it, if you don't know any electricity:

Thank of the wire as a pipeline with water flowing through, and of the helicopter as an empty tank. When you connect this tank to the pipe line, water will flow into the tank, but very soon after the tank will be full, and no more water can flow in. The ground is also like an empty tank, except that it's huge and can never be filled, so if you connect the ground to the pipe line, the flow will never stop. This flow is exactly the electrical current that kills you if flown through your body.

    • grounded?

no, being grounded means u die. thats why birds and squirrels are fine on wires. b/c there NOT grounded. silly enamus u

    • it is true...

... There are videos all over youtube for these workers, and it is not safer to do the from the ground because once you complete the circut from the metal tower to the insulator holding the cable you are toast. anyway, just thought id let you know.

  • This is what I Lineman does for a living...

To all who think this is fake,go back to watching the dumb pet trick videos. This is 100 percent real ,no sound effects or helicopter effects added. How do you people think these high voltage lines are maintained while keeping your lights on in the entire neighborhood that you live in or supplying current to all of the the industry. It is not like every time you work on a circut in your house . It can't be shut down every time maintenance has to be performed. This work has got to be completed while the power/energy still flows through the cable. These are proven and practiced methods. Listen to the narration about the special suit and just how electricity flows. You are so quick to put it down. Your sharp tongue shows your ignorance.

  • IF YOU

If you have to do it from the ground then that power line must(and i repeat must) be switched off and earthed both at the main substation and the site of work(it's called"making a circuit dead") Believe me i know what am talking about, that's my area of experties as a Power systems control engineer.
