The practice of the US Embassy in Trinidad & Tobago denying travel visas is questioned by US citizen, Carol Craig.
I am one of the VERY fortunate Trinis who got his visa I had all the ties.I got my visa and NEVER came back I left all that behind.I am one of alot of trinis here in the US that did the same and it will NOT STOP,I understand that there are folks that who will not do what we did and stay but one bad apple spoils the bunch.I am not sorry for what I did because I had a plan,I know of folks here who are illegal and they are bleeding the system as to other imigrants all these things put a bad taste in the mouths of Americans. Its not going to get better.I am sorry to hear that Ms Craig was not allowed to get he husband a visa which I found strange! There are ways for her to petition for her husband using the i-130 Petition for Alien Relative, as a visa number becomes available which will be in a few months.I am legally resident now in the US and doing fine I can come and go when I want all being done in last four years.

We are all on the same page. My daughter (18 yrs) was also turned down about a month ago. She has been travelling for the past 5 years. She is now considered an adult and was told that she has no "strong ties" in Trinidad. Mind you, her whole family lives here. She is also still in school and is supported by me. They never look at her documentation or the fact that she was travelling with her parents. the letter which is given is very vague and of course it indicated that if you are in school or married or have children. What does that mean for us. Really dont understand. it is very unfair. So my daughter cannot travel unless she is married, have kids, have a house etc. She is a student and will be for the next three years.
By shanicer 1258560273this is so true, it is rediculous because my appointment date was on the 23 of february. i was the 1st person to be interviewed. had all my documents, i was still in school didn't even finish . i still had a whole year ahead of me . i had all the documents affilated. i had dreams of travelling. but the interviewer didn't ask me forany documents, none whasoever , and in one minute time told me that i have never travelled before .. so i cannot issue you a visa.. i wanted to die, was so disappointd an sad for months. the love of my lif is living in the states and all i wanted to do was visit for 1 week. thats all . we need a voice in this country but their isn't any . not even the gov't will stand up . i really need to get my visa because it hurts so much that we can't get it an we sped so much of our hard earned money . and we are being denied.
By kimmyBACKSPACE 1255234789this is wrong and I am really sorry that you are having these problems. I have married my Trinidadian husband and still they will not let him have a visa so as to come visit and meet my family. It is disgusting! I am a US citizen working as an expat, now in Egypt. We will try again but our expectations are very low. Carol, the one who did the video.
By teachercjcraig 1255254192please contact them... i will support you in anyway. i need my visa. i can't stand the fact that nobody is doing anything to improve the system. i want o reapply, but all my hopes are low. i don't want to waste money again for nothing.
By kimmyBACKSPACE 1255272981This is so true, but it has always been like that even before september 11.They don't usually look at much of your info, and then the end result is "insufficient ties". So what if you don't have land, a business or a big bank account. Sometimes family in the states wants to send you a ticket to come to a family event or a holiday for a couple weeks and your kids are staying in Trinidad with your family here, aren't your children sufficient ties ? I don't know how they define that in the states but i see children as such. You have to be a crazy person to run away and hide out in a country that gave you a visa in the first place, over stay the time that was given to you , work illegaly get caught and sent back with no chance of ever getting a visa again all for what ? the experience? the fees are so high now that only rich people can afford them anyway :(
By hottchick 1255093759I applied for a US visa on friday 11sept, 09 I was denied. the consul did not even look at my job letter I am an instructor involved in skills training. I work with young people in particular' civillian conservation corp at a well recognised training company. I applied for a visitors visa 21 days I was treated unfairly by the attitude of the consul, she did not even look at my job letter, but said my salary of $6200.00 was not enough.
By tera60 1252942426We US citizens are NEVER asked to provide any proof of monetary means when we visit anywhere outside the US and I can not understand where our embassy gets off asking all of these questions. A terrorist would have a huge amount of money and a person going on a vacation may be spending every hard earned penny to make a trip. I do not have a lot of savings and could never show adequate means in a bank account if I was asked. I have chosen to live outside the US and have not lived there for three years. I am ashamed of the way our embassy is treating all foreigners regarding the visa policy. I am sorry that you are being put through this. I can not get a visa for my Trini husband to come and meet my family, it is a very sad policy which I hope is soon changed.
By teachercjcraig 1255254462I was informed from a credible source in the Office of The Prime Minister that a letter was despatch to Mr. Eugene Sweeny -Head of Consular Affairs to stop the issuance of US visas to Trinidad and Tobago national.
Due to the unstabilty and high crime situation, some people wanted to migrate, hence the officer at the Embassy especially a particular woman, refused to even look at your documents.
This atrocious act must stop otherwise they all will have to pack up and leave our country!
I have heard this same rumor. However, it does not give the US embassy the right to say that they will be giving a fair interview when in fact, they are not going to grant a visa and they know that ahead of time. This is a dishonest policy. US visas are not given out easily in other countries too, so I do not know if this letter situation is the reason. Either way, the policy is WRONG! You can not say to an interviewee that if they provide the required documents they can get a visa when it is already determined that they will NOT get a visa. Also, there should be a processing fee but some of the application fee should be returned when an applicant is denied. They do very little investigation on these applications and there is no way that $131 is the cost of the process.
