  • WHEN WILL I LEARN?

When will I learn to read other comments before I waste more of my valuable time?
The video is mildly amusing, but a fake none the less!

  • So fake

The batteries are way too small. It would take at least a D-cell.

  • This is totally junk

First off, as some have mentioned, this is not an LCD. Second, why would three identical units have three different colors? Third, this is totally bogus- running a current through a magnet does nothing. If the magnet has a conductive plating on the outside, it simply acts as a wire. The magnetic field is doing absolutely nothing to this sugar water.

An LCD has two plates of glass or plastic that have a thin metallic conductive coating (such as tin) on one face. The coating is etched into a pixel pattern or display pattern. X and Y axis wires are also etched in to allow you to access each display element. Then you apply a liquid similar to the cholesterol molecule which has a crystal form at the molecular level between the two plates. Applying an AC current causes the molecules to reorganize and change their ability to polarize light. There is a polaroid filter placed on the LCD to align the light to one axis, and the AC changes that axis to make the elements visible.

  • Not to mention

...that it is a time lapse. I wonder how long that really took for the water to change colors... or was it a fade to already colored water?

Notice now 'fast' he makes it look yet all three change color at the same time instead of in the order he poured them.

  • LCD

    Liquid Crystal Display
Short for liquid-crystal display. A low-power, flat-panel display used in many digital devices to display numbers or images. It is made of a liquid containing crystals that are affected by electric current, sandwiched between filtering layers of glass or plastic. LCDs do not produce light of their own; instead, when electric current is passed through the material, the molecules of the "liquid crystal" twist so that they either reflect or transmit light from an external source.

    That's not really an "LCD".
