A short and interesting documentary about how the events of 9/11 affected the climate.
I DO think we are altering out climate by our dependance on fossil fuels. This documentary suggests the removal of pollutants in the atmosphere would bring about the same rise in temperatures we currently blame automobiles and industry for, but only quicker.
I have to admitt I'm a bit confused by the conundrum.
The greenhouse effect is propably caused by CO2 and has absolutely nothing to do with clouds created by planes. The clouds only cause a short-time effect.

By KTrace 1164747982Ignorant but i doubt i will be around to see the worls ends due to global warming... So f**k all you clowns that will!!!! muahaha
By KinnZ 1161279911and it'd be a thousand years before the smallest change would be seen. Because what we're doing might affect landscapes, but there is no solid evidence it's affecting the global enviornment. Each supposed evidence taken that supports an effect can be contradicted by at least one if not more than one evidence that refutes it. Contrail effects are lmited to the close jet routes taken by airliners and only then when the weather conditions are just right. A couple of days of anomoly mean nothing.
By doombuggy 1157478912The big problem now is how to solve it. Here we have two powers -global warming and global dimming- that are working against each other. If we'd take steps to deminish the effects of, let's say, global warming, then global dimming will get the upper hand, wich is bad. But also the other way around.
We really got ourselves in a situation this time, people.
An easily acheivable solution is to switch cars from using gasoline to using biofuel, switch trucks and buses from using diesel to using bio alternatives like vegitable oil or sunflower oil.
The point of biofuel is that it is a closed carbon cycle. All the carbon dioxide released from biofuel is reabsorbed growing the next crop of biofuel.
If you so much as switched 10% of car emissions you would offset the emissions of the world's airline fleets.
Aviation is excluded from the Kyoto accords because there is no viable alternative fuel for jet aircraft. Jet fuel does not freeze until minus 40 Celsius. Biofuels begin to gel from minus 20 Celsius so whilst you can run a jet on biofuel, you can not certify it because it gels at low temperature. Airships if they returned however probably could run on biodiesel.
It is a lot simpler to reverse CO2 levels by tackling fuels for private cars and that is a way in which we can all be part of the solution. Using electric cars or hydrogen fuel cell cars is another option. With biofuels we have to pressure our governments to force the oil companies to sell biofuels through their outlets.
Heck it's time to get out of Iraq...Let the Arabs play with their oil and we'll use something better.
