with people who do karate or kung fu or whatever is that if they use it in a street fight and really hurt someone they're gonna get their asses sued! if you're going against a grappler, you can knock him out before he gets his hands on you. why wouldn't you be able to with a well placed punch or kick. but if your technique is off and you only make a glancing blow or make some other mistake and let him past your guard, then you're fucked.

This is a deffinate uchimata, no doubt about it, to be more precise, ko-uchimata.
In O soto guruma you throw him backwards (uke) with your leg behind his two legs.
Maybe you were confused with o guruma where you throw him forwards but with your leg in front of both his legs at the height of the knees

Kuzushi litteraly means to crash, something in the way as Godzilla.
In Martial Arts the term would mean off balancing, trapping his balance..
