and your statement is comical. Let's say that you enjoy swimming - do you do so during the worst conditions (currents, storms, etc.) unless you're fighting for your life? How about skydiving - would you test the extreme and try it without the chute? Life is about overcoming situations, not boldly DEFYING them - especially GRAVITY. Nature owns that body count.

You are right. The idea of climbing rocks, is to climb them and arrive safely. The idea of skydiving is to jump, and land safely. Climbing the rocks without safety equipment is dangerous. Jumping out of a plane without a parachute is stupid.

Dan Osmun died, unfortunately, but he died doing something he loved doing. Hell of a lot better way to go than old and decrepit, sucking on an oxygen tube while alternating that with a feeding tube, with some poor slob changing your crappy diapers every so often.

The people who climb Mount Everest for example (some attempting it without oxygen). Challenging the extremes is what some people live for. It's not for everyone but doesn't mean those who do so should be knocked for it. Anyway, it's his life and he can do what he likes with it. Don't knock it if you don't understand it. Oh, and that example of skydiving without the chute -- that's not challenging yourself -- that's just pure suicide. The difference with the rock-climbing case is that the guy had a definite logical plan and matching set of skills to survive the climb. Jumping out without a chute does *not* IMHO involve a survival plan.

but I don't agree with calling people who do not live extreme lifestyles cowards. Extreme activity is just not for everyone. But I do support those who are into it; it's great that they are single-minded in their pursuits and in living life to the fullest despite the ignorant bleating of naysayers.

so if someone enjoys skydiving should he/she do it without a parashote (spelling sucks) ... he couldve climbed these mountains with safety equipment... joyful and safe.

these people died doing things that they loved, they did it for the thrill of being on the edge, a rush of adrenaline that cannot be replicated anywhere else. it's easy for you to criticize them, sitting in your nice little air conditioned home in fron of your computer. you wish you had the balls to do what they did.
