    Yea... its a good idea...
    It will replace your old heat pads...
    Jus' make sure you got the right size screwdrivers... I didn't... had to redo everything! Really not hard and its a good idea to understand what causes the problems and how to fix them.

    Dumb ass below doesn't understand xbox's obviously... let me give you a hint. xbox's are pieces of crap. The reason the red ring occurs is because Microsoft was too cheap and put little foam strips to absorb the heat and actually took out one the the heat sinks that was in the system during development.
    Yes... using the towel trick is not a very good idea but the manual will tell you nothing. Maybe to call Microsoft so they can put a band-aid on your xbox and call it good. You will get the ring in 2 weeks...
    Look for more videos on how to permanently fix this problem good sir.

      it is acttualy a good idea because my warrenty was up and i didnt want to pay 120 bucks to get it fixed when i could fix it for free with just some towels

      Seriously... usually if you do this trick it will work for a few weeks... maybe more if your lucky... but over heating it puts the foam pads in worse condition. There are videos on how to open up your xbox and replace these pads with something else (i.e. washers, or pennies wrapped in electircal tape.) works very well and it will (in most cases) permenently fix this problem without damaging your xbox. It will cost you maybe 20 dollars. I'd say its a good investment if you play a lot.
      If you are afraid to do this, maybe the towel trick is a good idea... but I would sugest opening up or having somebody who knows how help you out.

      Also... a good thing to look into.
      your xbox might be x-tremely dusty inside. Which could cause performance issues. Definatley a good idea to buy a power duster (gas powered air in a can)
      Get all that dust out.

    I'll try it on my computer too! Next time it hangs I'll just unplug the cooler and wait for it to fix itself. Overheating a computer is always a good way to make it better. Now seriously. If you want it to reset have you considered unplugging it? There might even be a way to do it. Did you read the manual? It's that thing made of paper with letters in it...
