I don't see any fencing up......that groomer can't see the guys coming down the hill? If the trail IS closed, stop the machine, chew their asses out, and pull their ticket. Killing someone for skiing past a fence doesn't make much sense, DOES it? Interesting attitude coming from a ski patrol who should show some maturity.

does not mean it wasn't there. It was probably uphill or maybe right before the jump, and can't be seen on the vid, just like the snowboarder before jumping. And like I said on my other reply: if the trail was open it is a huge and unforgivable mistake and the resort should be sued or something.
The machine operator surely couldn't see the guys coming until reaching the top. Either way a solid in the middle of a slope must always be marked, padded or surrounded by safety nets. That's why you close an area where machines are working. Who's talking about killing asshole? I'm talking about saving lives. And yes. If you go off limits you might get killed. I once had to dug out from under an avalanche the father of my little daughter's school friend. He had gone off limits taking down a net and avoiding control personnel. We did take his ski pass from his dead body, but didn't make much difference to his wife and little girl. Or him for that matter.

If the guy is skiing OB he is at his own risk and potential peril; I won't aruge that point at all.

i agree to an extent, i mean not all board riders are that dumb.
dont just close slopes for no reason. as ski patrol u shud be able to ski well enough to chase their ass down and do something about it.

Who the cap fit... let'em wear it. My point is that many people disregard signals and closed trails and this is a good example of what might happen when they do. I'm sure they must have passed some kind of closing mark (net, rope) to get there where the machine was working. If not, the resort should be sued.
Regarding chasing guys downhill... well, the idea is to prevent accidents. What punishment do you think is right for someone who stupidly and recklessly went off limits and got caught in an avalanche, for instance?
