  • The gurus say one comprehends better?

    Yeh, ms. lynn, these gurus continue to say that speed reading helps one to comprehend better, also. Yet, as I'm sure you know all too well, reading good literature is more than gleaning facts and concepts--the beauty of the author's artistry with words also is a huge factor that's blithely ignored as worthless detritus by such gurus and their adherents. (They continue to believe think that, ultimately, we all desire to become Fortune 500 global-corporation exec types)....

    ehh. . . . . who really wants to read that fast anyway? maybe college kids that are crammin' for exams. but when i read (it's always a non-fiction piece) i like to take my time & be sure i absorb all of it to its' best & enjoy it. when i was in 3rd grade i was reading at the 8th grade level. so it isn't the speed of reading that is important ~ it's the comprehension that sticks with u afterwards that truly counts afterwards.
