This ring is supposed to contain the turbine blade if it detaches, without the containment ring the blades would shoot away from the hub & you would have blades blasting through the side of the fuselage, it would be terrible. this ring means that a fan fracture means you make an emergency landing, without it a fan fracture would cause an inflight breakup of the airplane.

One waited for me to finish washing and waxing my car last week, then crapped on it. Just kill them and eat them all now.

You got to think about how much they had to spend to make thet engine then fix it then check it, and the gas thet was wasted to do thet probobly 10,000,000 dollers went down the drain.

I am afraid it failed.

mount double blade,one in front of the other,the secondary blade doesn't engage until the first one breaks,and when the first blade breaks it automatically disengages from the main drive shaft,that's just too simple,now someone get out there and get rich off my idea,then thank me with a new house or car

birds do not attack planes. They were flying happily to their destination when suddenly planes hit them. Poor bird. They were dead...and blamed.

This is not a bird hit test, this is test done on one of Airbus a380's engines, and they tested what will happened to engine if one of blades blow up. You can clearly see marked blade witch was set to detach by explosive charges. Point of this test is to make housing of engine as rigid as possible, so that derbies from damaged engine don't penetrate hosing and damage other parts of plane.
But don't worry... bird hit in engine isn't any less destructive then this...

firstly, they usually fire a chicken carcass down a "test-gun" barrel, not a real live bird.
secondly, how many of you who complain about poor old birdy, or about animal rights etc have safely been on a jet plane journey?
if so, and you were happy to get there with your health, family etc, shut up moaning will ya?

I would agree that this is a blade off test and not a bird intake test. Had it been a bird intake test then this engine would have badly failed when the engine should liquidate and expell the remains... and not go up in flames. A hard broken fan blade is a different matter and from this testing it looks like they could do with some improvements when it is hard to see how this engine would keep alive after that.

Good thing they test that on the ground and not in the air with a lot of people on a plane!! I hate the fact they used a bird too but I would rather live than die!
