I'm not sure what you think that hippo was doing, but I hate to burst your bubble. Hippos don't eat other hippos. He wasn't having an afternoon snack. He left the hippo behind, and refused to let the mother near it for some time. This is a rare thing that hippos do, but this was a malicious act by a dominant jealous male.

Well, it was sad for sure... Sometimes nature is so cruel... I mean the little hippo is so cute, he's so small, he didn't mean any harm... Yet that other big fat hippo had to follow his instincts and end his life..
