    • You Can Recharge It

Good question! You can add another tablet and recharge the lava lamp. I'm not sure exactly how many times you can do this, but the one in the photo has been recharged 7 times so far.

  • Hmmm...

Wouldn't closing the lid of the bottle cause the gases released from the tablet to build pressure inside the bottle, possibly deforming the bottle or, at worst, causing it to burst?

    • pressure buildup

Yeah, you would think that might happen, as if you mixed baking soda and vinegar or baking soda and citric acid (essentially alkaseltzer without the aspirin). I was concerned about the possibility, so I tried the project with three alkaseltzer tablets at once. There was enough pressure buildup that when the cap was loosened, it popped off (not with dangerous force). There isn't enough carbon dioxide with a tablet or two with a 1 liter or 2 liter bottle to present a risk.

That was an excellent safety question.
