www.neomatrix.com - The HALO Test is a new screening process to assess a woman's risk for developing breast cancer. It works similarly to a pap smear by detecting abnormal cells long before cancer might develop. While a mammogram is recommended for women 40 and older, HALO is for women 25 and older.
Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths for women from 20 to 59. Statistics also show that 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer and 70% of women diagnosed have no identifiable risk factors. However, typically cancer has been in the breast for 8 to 10 years before it can be seen on a mammogram. The HALO Test searches for atypical cells in the breast fluid. If atypical cells are present, the patient is 4 to 5 times more likely to get breast cancer and can be monitored more closely to detect signs of breast cancer at an earlier stage.
