  Maverick is AGM-65 (Air to Ground Missle) would not be fired for Air to Air use. Also the nose is rounded on Maverick.

the pheonix was fired once in combat and missed cuz da target got outta range. the missile went down still locked onto him though!!!! VFA-103. good ol jolly rogers missed em.

Do u not see that this is a Phoenix, just look at the size and the shape, no American air to air missiles is close 2 have the size of this missile, this is a Phoenix. Fighters have been my biggest interest for 15 years, so I know what I am talking a bought.

It IS an AIM-54
I am sure it is because It said so on the webpage where I got it (i searched for it).
And as far as I know, the aim54's were only made for tomcats (the longest-range missile ever made!)

  An AGM-65 Maverick is an air-to-ground missile (AGM!).

  The AIM-54 Phoenix is an air-intercept missile (AIM!).

  Granted, they do look similar (Phoenix has a pointed nose), but it is all but impossible to shoot down another aircraft with a Maverick.

  AIM-54. The very first site shows a Tomcat launching an AIM-54 which is exactly the same as the missile in this clip. So at least have some backup when calling people stupid.
