A night-shot of an adult female Chilean 'Fire-Hair" Tarantula molting. Adults usually molt about once a year, but the frequency can vary on how fast the actual spider grows. Generally speaking the entire molt process takes a few hours to complete. This tarantula took several hours prepare it's molting nest, 20 minutes to shed its actual exoskeleton, and 3 following days to fully harden her new shell.

  Yes, it is very mind boggling. It also sheds the lining of some of it's organs... which is really wierd when you think about it.
