Barbra was a hit on Broadway portraying Fanny Brice in the musical "Funny Girl." In her first film, she won an oscar for her role in the 1968 movie.

This scene and song are prophetic for both Fanny and Barbra as Fanny Brice (Barbra Streisand) tries to convince her boss that he should give her a chance because even though she isn't beautiful she has a lot of talent - A "bagel on a plate of onion rolls."

If you like this movie, may I suggest you check out The Great Ziegfield to see the real Fanny Brice in action. She doesn't show up until about 1hr 45 but she really is amazing. After watching it, you appreciate Barbra Streisand's work in this picture even more.
