Live implosion test in public
Normal air pressure is about 15 pounds per square inch. A container car is built to operate in normal air pressure, where the pressure of the air or fluid inside equals the outside pressure. When you create a vacuum inside the container, the steel is not thick enough to resist the pressure.
My question is the sequence was obviously speeded up. How long did that really take? My guess is 5-30 min.
It actually happens on railcars this fast. The higher the initial strength of the vessel the more violent the implosion due to the higher potential energy from the higher pressure difference from outside to inside. I have seen atmospheric oil tanks like you see at refineries have frozen vents and the tank slowly collapses as the liquid is drawn out. If caught early enough and reversed, they can spring back out.
By bolhuim 1236101150why did the camera shake at the moment of implosion???
answer me that
I wouldn't spend 5-30 min watching this
By dudephish 1275093605Once all the air has been sucked out of something and there is a 100% vacuum. Can even more suction be created by S**king on the empty space?
Or is there a maximum of how much suction can be created?
I'm guessing that after a 100% vacuum is created no more additional suction pressure can be created. Does that mean that just the weight of air can crush these things like this? WOW!
I wonder then how thick the steel is that submarines are surrounded by.
And if you weighed a column of air above our head going all the way out to space, how much would that column of air weigh????
Good questions. A column of air 1" square from sea level to space is 14.7 pounds. There is nothing lower than -14.7 psi for pressure. A one foot column of water is .433 psi. I believe that subs generally have a limit of depth of approximately 1000' of water, or 1000 X .433 or 433 psi. Their hulls are alloys that are stronger than steel and are braced differently than a tank car. If they anticipate a tank car or other vessel will be at a vacuum it can be braced, usually with rings of "I" beam type steel spaced along the cylinder. As the worlds largest producer of titanium, the USSR made 3 only subs with hulls made of pure titanium which is extremely strong. These "Alpha Class" subs could descend to nearly 2000 feet or withstand 866 psi. What you need to consider is that pressure is what is exerted on 1 square inch. Multiply that by 144 for one square foot or 288 for 2 or etc.
This video is a safety vid showing how important it is to vent a railcar while unloading it. Just the earth's atmosphere under complete vacuum exerts 217 pounds of force on each square foot of that car, but I guarantee it collapsed long before that.
Could you explain how anything could weigh -14.7 lb? I mean, have you invented some kind of new anti-gravity device? if you did, tell everyone. We'll sstop seeing aircraft with wings.
By sunplane 1236102349Not saying that anything weighs -14.7 psi, just that the earth's atmosphere exerts 14.7 psi of pressure on anything. It is a really fair observation, I just didn't want to be too detailed. Properly expressed earth's atmosphere at sea level is expressed as 14.7 psia. or pounds per square inch absolute. The proper reference is that space is 0 psia. Since we don't live there we normally use 0 psig which is pounds per square inch gauge. As far as LA class subs withstanding 80,00 psi I have to call BS. They would be able to descend to 35 miles!!. We have only been able to descend to the really deep places in the ocean in specially created spheres and nowhere near that deep.
By bolhuim 1236220050I used to know this girl that could do that, I even once saw her S**k start a Harley. lol. GOOD VID 5 stars.
By Zttman 1236073865knew her to. But did you notice after she sucked started the harley there was no chrome on the end of the tail pipe!!

By Moskillz 1255255249mE TOO i knew a blonde S**king the air in a tank but she was not able to squeeze it like that bkoze there was a small hole in the tank....
