      He wants to look and act cool even when he sees that the assistants throat is cut. The master must have told the assistant the typical karate sh!t later like " You need to focus more and bring your energy into your throat;-)"

      Anyway, who needs to see this type of S**t demonstration. People learm martial arts to learn to fight...not to cut cucumber on other peoples throats.

    Martial Arts exhibitions like this are just retarded. They don't have anything to do with martial arts. You dont' train in kendo or kenjutsu to learn to not nick your opponent. Sure it shows how much control you have, but the whole point is to kill your opponent, not nick him. Developing control like that is only useful for practice so you don't maim your training partner. This is why I hate shows like this.

    I had done aikido for years and when using swords there is not play.
    The point is to cut arteries not to do silly demostrations.
    Also he even should choose a katana, is more short and precise.
    I hate when people does this stupid things, not different than "Jackass" the movie, at least they are funny :)

      I think you meant "wakizashi." It appears to me that the "master" was actually using a katana, or, in a more generic term, a "daito." The sword that he is using does not seem shorter than two shaku. The wakizashi would have been "more short and precise." However, seeing as how this man's skills need more polishing, I think he should have instead used an iaito instead because iaito are unsharpened. However, iaito are capable of slicing though something as soft as a cucumber. This "master" must be one idiot unworthy of such a name, and belt status.

    I was once at a New England town fair type of thing and they had a martial arts demonstration where the practitioners split boards. After the demonstration but before they cleaned up I picked up on of the split boards to see how it broke. It turned out they had drilled 90-80% of the way through the board (across its breadth and perpindicular to the grain) and then glued veneer over the drill hole to hide it. This made the boards very easy to split. Is this typical?

      I've been in a martial arts most of my life. I was in a demo team once and the boards we used were pretty much split enough to be able to seperate with your hands. Face it - you can't be 100% no matter how good you are. Demo is all about flash, not fighting. On the other hand, during training and testing, we broke boards that didn't split. You had to hit them so precisely with enough force to shatter them.

      No wanting to start a martial art war (imagine that!) but I have a close relation who is a black belt kung fu, part of her testing process was to break a 1" pine plate about 8" square. I have seen the plates, they were solid enough for me to support my weight easily between two bricks and im near 200lbs.

      Done properly martial arts are amazing and very much a sport/skill. Im sure some half-ass participants / teachers exist, like in all walks of life.

    Karate is for non-athletic wierdos who can't hack it in traditional sports. This guy probably got teased a lot in high school and now he goes around trying to look cool with a cloak and a sword. Any normal person would have at least gone over to see if the guy was OK. These kind of people should be relegated to playing video games and not trying to simulate them in real life.

      be lulled into a false sense of security. You don't learn anything in karate, tae kuan do, WHATEVER except how to fight OTHER people who know karate or tae kuan do. sure, you look pretty delicately balancing on your toes and whipping the air with your fists, but lets be real here - they're sports. they're false adaptations of a once legitimate self defense style after weapons were banned to the general public in feudal times of the samurai. explain to a karate "master" what to do when a drunk ass fella double legs him into the pavement. Good like getting back into your horse stance then you jerkoff. enjoy your pretty belt with your name embroidered on it while your rubbed into the ground by a drunkard - it happens more than you'd think.

      By the way, you ever watch a sparring match? I mean REALLY watch it? they go in with one stupid move. ONE weak little strike and then collapse away from each other ducking and flinching like they dont' want to be hit. it's pathetic. learn how to grapple.

      one last thing. WHO THE HELL CARES IF THE CROWD GOES WILD AFTER HE SLICES HIS THROAT. fact is the dude almost killed somebody that's a little more important to tend to than your pride. what an arrogant loser.
